For an enjoyable, fun night out why not try the award winning Filipino restaurant, Bahay Kubo. We are located on Bath Avenue, over the Lansdowne Bar just down from the Haddington Road/Shelbourne Road junction. The ambience, food and service are second to none and you will be entertained nightly by Manila Rhythm (an acoustic trio) from the Philippines. Anyone who has been to the restaurant is amazed by their repertoire and their unique version of Bohemian Rhapsody. The prices are reasonable and to beat the recession we have introduced a special menu for €20.00 on Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday (not available during December). Leroni (Newbie) Credibility Score: 38% Visited: 14 Apr 2010 | Posted: over 2 months ago I went to this restaurant based with two friends due to the good reviews on Menupages and else where. We arrived early at 7.30. There was only one other table occupied and the live music had not started, so atmosphere was a bit flat, but at €20 for a two course meal, and with the near rave reviews that we had read, we thought we would give it a try. The started I wanted was not available and I was offered an alternative, which was not very inspiring. My friends starters where equally unimpressive. I wanted the Oxtail as a main course and it was also not available. So two of us settled for Spicy chicken and the other for a beef stew. The beef stew was nice and we all agreed that it was quite good, but far from great or memorable. Our Spicy chicken was appalling. The 'chicken' was a glutinous constituency and totally tasteless, served swimming in a watery chilly broth. It certainly qualifies for one of the worst 10 main course I have ever been served. Asian Fusion?? A truly dreadful experience. I had never heard of it until today. Its just around the corner from grand canal dock and pretty inconspicious considering its on the 1st floor and the signage was non descript especially dark at night. I must say it was a pleasant surprise though.Arrived at aprroximately 830pm.The band was playing an upbeat number and kept on going throughout the night..and the current offer of e20 of a 2 course meal was brilliant. The quality of the food was pretty impressive.Claw crabs to start with used proper crab meat, spring rolls were tasty. For mains-there was an assortment of dished to pick from-green thai curry, beef stir fried and prawns..All were simply scrumptious. There was crowd celebrating a 60th. Very much upbeat...Would recommend it to friends..Hope to be back in the near future. Unlike previous visits the food was disappointing. The shared starters were under cooked and soggy and the duck was extremely dry. As we ate early we were on our own for some time and the atmosphere didn't really pick up until the band arrived. Although we were advised when booking that we had the table until 8.30 we were asked to leave at 8.00 once the large parties started to arrive. We will go back but thsi place seems to have better standards during quieter periods. '); //--> Joined Mar 08 39 Reviews 0 Hats Off! loading...
