Balzac Brasserie recreates the ambience and glamour of the best Parisian brasseries. The dining room at 35 Dawson Street is probably the most handsome dining room in Ireland. Balzac Brasserie, superbly located in city centre Dublin, brings together an atmospheric brasserie, redolent of Parisian dining at its most glamorous, while still providing the deliciously comforting and dependable flavours of traditional French cooking. Balzac is a new restaurant, with a new look and a new name, combining a landmark dining room with a team brought together by a remarkable executive chef, Malcolm Starmer who consistently serves excellent food in informal, relaxed surroundings. Balzac is a restaurant which is finally pairing the top class food and wine with the great service that this impressive room deserves. All of our courses were delictable and beautifully presented, the staff were attentive and lovely and the decor was breathtaking. We took advantage of the 3 courses for €25 offer which had alot of choice on it; about six starters includings two daily specials, four mains and four deserts. Some of the dishes were quite adventurous but well worth trying as the way that the flavors in the dishes worked together was extraordinary. The nicest meal I have ever had in the nicest restaurant I have ever been in. Perfect for a special occasion. Absolutely loved it, can't wait to go back! The decor of the restaurant was amazing and really added to the occasion. We had a table of 6 and all took advantage of the Table d'hote menu at €25 per head. There was a good selection on the menu, there was one child with us and the staff were very accommodating to this and brought her out a plain dish. I had the chicken terrine for starters found it ok, but wouldn’t go for it again. The others got the salmon and really enjoyed it. Everyone enjoyed the mains. Some of the table got the chocolate pot for dessert but found it very filling. I got the strawberry pancetta and found it delicious. The staff was excellent. The bill came to a very reasonable price at the end, I would really recommend this place for ppl who are willing to try out different dishes such as rabbit, duck, etc. '); //--> Joined Mar 10 4 Reviews 0 Hats Off! loading... castiron (Newbie) Credibility Score: 25%   Visited: 10 Jul 2010 | Posted: 3 Weeks ago In there on Saturday night to take advantage of the well priced Table d'hote menu at €25 per head. We were down the very back of the venu, which is nice but not as impressive as the main room. Both starters, prawns and chicken terrine were good as were the mains, leg of rabbit and sea bass. The panna cotta dessert was great but the chocolate and tikka mousse on the dessert of the day was pretty grim. One picky point though, what is it with those oversized dishes they serve the mains in ?...is it a plate ? , is it a bowl ?...no... its just bloody hard work trying to scoop up the last of the tasty morsels without looking like an extra from Oliver. Speaking of workhouses, I think the (very busy and very efficient) waiting staff could be a little less serious and perhaps look around and smile a bit more, especially considering there is a cheeky 12.5% service charge on all bills Joined Jul 10 7 Reviews 0 Hats Off! loading... Greenlady (Foodie) Credibility Score: 17%   Visited: 18 Jun 2010 | Posted: 3 Weeks ago Have been here a few times and always enjoy, the decor especially the stained glass roof, is beautiful and makes for a great atmosphere whether the restaurant is full or quieter! Went with a group of 8 for the 25 euro menu on a friday night. Everyone enjoyed their meal, with the only complaint from the men being smallish size portions and would have likes extra sides of potatos or veg. I had the smoked salmon to start, and the lamb cutlets for main, and the lemon posset for dessert. Great choice on the value menu. The service is spot on too, would recommed for groups. We started well with some cocktails at the bar before being shown to our table. We chose from the 25 euro menu which was excellent value, both for the quality of the food offered and the professional service. I had a green salad which was beautifully fresh and perfectly dressed. Even still, I regretted not having my companion's choice: citrus smoked salmon. This had the most delicate flavour and a fine texture. His fish main course was apparently excellent; I had duck which was perfectly cooked. We decided to go for broke (in the dietary rather than financial sense) and have desert. The rice pudding was well-presented but a little unremarkable; the chocolate pot divine. How soon before we can go again? A la carte menu is very reasonable for the quality and choice. Favourites – Starter: stuffed squid and the fois grais. Mains: steak and the hake, Desserts: apple sponge (more a tart) and the posset (choc pot is quite rich). All mains came with veg/rice etc so no need for sides but they are small enough if you just want a little extra. Staff were friendly and not ott on the service. Wine list is quit extensive and ranges from 25 – 60. Definitely go back and try their Table D’ote menu of 3 courses €25 because dishes are same as a la carte! Décor is nice and good atmosphere with a few people dining. Originally a furniture storehouse if I remember correctly! Had the earlybird there, which was excellent value. The food was absolutely delicious, expecially the Rabbit which I would never usually go far! I urge anyone to try it! The stained glass dining room roof is extremely impressive and the service is impeccable. I'd go there again! << First Page < Prev [Results 1 - 8 of 36] Next > Last Page >>
