This veritable institution of Georges St made a very good decision to branch out into the suburbs late last year. Now the city centre shy can enjoy this excellent brasserie fare in a suburban atmosphere. But on the suggestion of a friend we decide to visit the outlet in Ranelagh. First off, on a quiet day the open-plan layout with closely-arranged tables doesn't lend itself to conservation. The lunch menu was rather limited, mostly the standard variations on pizzas and pasta. I opted for pizza, my friend opted for pasta. The food was delivered promptly, but that's probably the best compliment I can give. The pizza had plenty of toppings, but had an under-done, doughy taste. In contrast the pasta was over-cooked and practically disintegrating, with very little in the way of other ingredients. Afterwards we had a coffees which were fine. The most disappointing aspect of the lunch was the rude service. Having food and water practically thrown at you is never enjoyable, and especially hard to excuse when a restaurant is half-empty. The place definitely has a "cheap and cheerful" vibe. But €36 for 2 lunch mains and 2 coffees is not particularly good value in Dublin these days. Would be very reluctant to return. I had the roasted peppers with pine nuts and did not like the taste, It felt quite bitter. My partner had the pasta with tiger prawns and again it did not appear to have much good taste to it. There is pesto on everything which gets a bit much. I don't think you should have to ask the server for black pepper and even though we did there was no offering of parmesan cheese. All in all feel strongly it was not good value for money and would not rush back. However cam her on Monday and it was awful!!! they have changed the menu and not carry half of what was there. I got the salad again and it was horrible, no cajun chicken anymore, it is now bland chicken fried in oil. I asked for more as there was hardly any and got a saucer with a bit more. The dressing was non existent and when i called a waiter over he ignored me and then laughed. Partners food was ok but you cant go wrong with spag bol. Not going back, its seriously lost its edge. Dropped in on a Thursday at around 9.30 for a quick bite. Asked could I have the chicken, roast peppers with pesto pasta (it is gone from the menu). No problem at all - they were more than happy to do it - that's service for you! Plus, the lunch size portions are a great idea, even though they are still huge!! Definitely be back, friendly service, quick food make it a place I want to return to! '); //--> Joined Oct 09 6 Reviews 0 Hats Off! loading... Darstar (Foodie) Credibility Score: 31%   Visited: 15 May 2010 | Posted: 2 Months ago Three of us ate out for lunch here on Saturday - my mother had the Feta and Chickpea salad on my recommendation as its just so yummy, and she loved it. I had the ceasar Salad (veggie version) and it was delicious though they used a little too much dressing for my liking. My dad has a slice of the ricoota cake and gobbled it up in minutes so it must have been nice. Generally a nice lunch, satisfying but not someplace for a special occasion Joined Jun 08 52 Reviews 0 Hats Off! loading... i'deatmyhand (Guru) Credibility Score: 83%   Visited: 09 May 2010 | Posted: 2 Months ago Had a light bite here with friends on sunday, the place was almost empty being after lunch but before dinner. The service was attentive and friendly, the food was fine, nothing to write home about and the dessert plate we got to share had a slightly stale tiramisu. Won't be rushing back. We were seated in front of the cooking area which is noisy so it was hard to hear everybody at the table. The waitress was attentive and service was quick. It's hard to notice the specials board and everyone chose off the menu-mostly pizzas and pasta though I had the salad niscoise. Most were in agreement that pizzas have become smaller here in recent times and that you need to order large rather than medium. My salad was nice if not a little plain but generally the food here is tasty and filling (though a little on the dear side at lunchtime) Joined May 09 21 Reviews 0 Hats Off! loading... Slates (Guru) Credibility Score: 54%   Visited: 01 Mar 2010 | Posted: over 2 months ago I went to Cafe Bar Deli on a Monday night with my partner. We arrived at 7pm and there was no earlybird available which I was a bit surprised by. We ordered a small goats cheese and pesto pizza to share for entree. At €12 I thought it was a little steep. For main I ordered a small beetroot and goats cheese salad which was delicous and a great size for €8.20. My partner ordered the ricotta and pesto linguini which was €14 but pretty much the same size as my salad. Linguini was nice and tasty but not amazing. We also shared a half bottle of wine. Total bill of one entree, two mains and half a bottle of wine was €45 without tip. Food was really lovely and the service was perfect. Just think the price is a little expensive at the moment. Also very surprised for there not to be an earlybird. I'll be back if they drop there prices. << First Page < Prev [Results 1 - 8 of 14] Next > Last Page >>
