Friends happy with starters of pranwns and goats cheese tartlet.Main courses generous and came with plenty veg / spuds with no butter/ salt which some restaurants use to mask lack of freshness. My seabass was lovely.Skipped dessert.Good coffee served.I will be back but please, if chef is reading this, less salt in veg soup!! Other half had pork belly to start and said that is was tasty. Main course of prawn and scallop brochette on linguini was good. 2 skewers of prawns and 1 skewer of scallops. Scallops were on the overdone side which was a pity because the chili butter on the linguini was good. Hubby had beer battered seabass with sweet potato chips. Batter was delicious. Shared a chocolate torte for desert that was dense and delicious. Not a huge selection of wines but something to suit everyone. Will def try it again... I told them that was why I was there. The food choice on the menu is very limited. I was displeased with the soup I had ordered and then got chargrilled steak burger even though I had asked if that was how it was served and told no. My plate was untouched. The person who served us and was not bothered. I asked for desert and a cup of tea, cup of tea never arrived. I spoke to her at the end of the meal, paying full price for all of it and cancelling our booking and she just shrugged as if that was a normal occurence. I'm not that fussy but will not be going there again, very unsatisfied. Update 25/5/10. Mairead from Canters rang me to apologise for our night. I appreciated that., just wanted to note same. I was hoping to get the lunch menu but as it was match day that menu wasn't available. Had I known this when I booked the table I would have cancelled. Instead there was an offer of 3 courses for Eur 20. As none of us were particularly hungry we asked for 1 starter and 2 mains, nothing else. After some confusion with the menus and prices we made our order. I asked how much the mains would be as we were not going for the 3 courses. I was told it would be Eur14 or Eur15. When we finished and got the bill we found we were charged 19.50 for the mains!! I was not impressed. I went to the counter and explained what had happened and was told 'oh you got charged from the 'a la carte' menu' that we hadn't even seen! No apology. I did get a refund after complaining so the mains cost Eur 14.50 in the end. The food was fine but I wont be rushing back. daro (Newbie) says:Sorry their was a mix up over menus but as we do not open on Saturdays for lunch and were only open with a set menu for the Rugby supporters this caused some confusion among my staff. I`m sorry our staff where not completely briefed on menus but the duck you had was only available on the ala carte menu again i would like to apologise and hope to see you in the future. Atmosphere would have been better if Restaurant was busier. Nice live jazz on Thursdays.Service was good. Food was good if a little pricey. However we did choose from a la carte menu and you could eat for less by utilising the set menu or choosing nightly special offers. Ask about these as they may not be offered otherwise Joined Jul 09 23 Reviews 0 Hats Off! loading... mrsmac (Guru) Credibility Score: 54% Visited: 14 Feb 2010 | Posted: over 2 months ago After a lovely Valentines stroll in Clontarf we had built up an appetite and ventured upon Canters. There was a set Valentines menu available but we just got starters/mains as there was a box of chocs to eat at home. I had a lovely pear and goats cheese tart for starter with carmelised onions and my husband had the cheese and bacon potato skins with sour cream also delicious. My mains I had the falafels with potatoes and salad they were just the right size and very tasty my husbands burger was tasty with bacon, cheese and thick crunchy chips. The service was friendly and very quick and the atmosphere was good with nice romantic music in the background. As an extra bonus when the staff gave us back our change they handed us a CD of all the love songs that were being played in the restaurant I thought that was a lovely touch for the day that was in it. I will definately return again. Very quiet inside but cosy and warm. Food was excellent, freshly made, hot and plenty of it. Service was very good, attentive but not over so. Thought price for early bird was excellent, also chose Valentine menu. Will definetly go back and support this neighbourhood restaurant. Only downside is no parking -but Fairview very handy for buses so that wasn't even a problem. << First Page < Prev [Results 1 - 8 of 21] Next > Last Page >>
