A marriage of old-world elegance and modern design Castleknock Golf Club is situated 3 miles from the city centre alongside Farmleigh House and forms part of the uplands over the Liffey valley and adjacent to the Strawberry Beds.
The course is framed by extensive deciduous woodlands which clothe the Liffey escarpment giving the course a maturity and an ambience which makes it unique particularly as it is so close to the centre of Dublin.
Renowned golf journalist Dermot Gilleece writing in 2004 states that “it is in every sense a members course,” in other words the course was specifically designed to accommodate golfers of all handicaps. The course measuring 6,700 yards from the blue tees has been described by Dermot as “a gently undulating elevated terrain framed on all sides by mature trees… creating a seductively restful environment”. There is scope for plenty of drama with 5 par 3 holes over water and 5 par fives which require careful course management, not to mention the 437 yard par 4 17th which has a 30foot ash tree standing guard just short of the green.
Castleknock golf course is a unique location, modern in design; it will gratify all golfers due to its varied tee positions, its ease of traverse and its very special location.
