Just finished being refurbished in very a beautiful style, Chai Yo has now 3 Teppenyaki areas that are perfect for groups. This is a really fun restaurant on Baggot Street which proves popular with all age groups and professions. Enjoy Japanese food in friendly, relaxed surroundings and the bill won't do much damage. For the month of December we will not be serving the Evening Special Menu, this will resume in the New Year! Was rather empty but still lovely atmosphere. From the look of the outside, I thought it was going to be disastrous and then when you go inside, the interior is lovely, with stone walls and nice decor. The food good, I had chicken satay and then crispy chili shredded chicken which was lovely. We also had dessert and tea because we went for early bird and 4 courses are only €17.50, excellent value. Service was efficient although a little bit annoying at times as they kept hovering and coming over when we were trying to have a conversation. All in all though a lovely experience. We were shown into the restaurant which appeared empty but when we were shown to our table downstairs, the place was full. Our lunch was delicious and the service was excellent. I had chicken satay for starter and Prawn Kung Pao for main. The only thing was that we were given the bill at 3pm,even though we didn't ask for it. We weren't informed at any stage by the staff that the restaurant closeed from 3pm until 6pm. I'd like to go back again soon to sample their dinner menu. Would definately recommend it '); //--> Joined Jan 08 52 Reviews 0 Hats Off! loading... deckster (Guru) Credibility Score: 80% Visited: 29 May 2010 | Posted: 2 Months ago I love Teppanyaki food but we were very disappointed with this experience. We (6) were crammed into seats practically on top of eachother, sharing the same grill as a group of 8. We didn't get to eat anything until more than an hour and a half after we arrived so everyone was starving. The service for drinks was slow and because we were rammed into a corner we needed wine brought to us as it was in a bucket on the other side of the room. Hungry and thirsty, not a good way to be in a restaurant... The food was mediocre, I have had much better Teppanyaki in Dublin at more reasonable prices. There also was not enough of it, which was the opinion of everyone in our group. The winelist is ok and the desserts are the usual frozen variety you find in most asian restaurants. The food was delicious and the staff were very entertaining. However, when we arrived there we had to wait for over half an hour in the cramped foyer for our table to be vacated and re-set. We had been told a number of times that the table would be available in time and they never called to tell us about the delay. Also there is a special Teppenyaki menu so you can't have the set evening menu at those tables. There is an obligatory service charge on the bill - an expensive tip for bills that run into hundreds of Euro. The Teppanyaki is greatly entertaining and the food is delicious. Our chef was very funny, and made everybody feel included in the night. Waiting staff were very attentive. Can't recommend this place enough. The food was OK. I couldn't say it was great but I can't find any specific faults with it. It's food witout flair. It really was a party restaurant I thought so if you were organising a birthday dinner or a girls night out then this place would be a good choice. However, if you want some good food on a Saturday night then this just isn't the place. Due to that the service was attentive and very good, but it would need to have been, we sat and watched our food and the food was above average but not the best I have ate. Overall the experince was enjoyable but there needs to be a crowd to liven up this restaurant Joined Mar 07 24 Reviews 0 Hats Off! loading... essex (Guru) Credibility Score: 68% Visited: 17 Jul 2007 | Posted: over 2 months ago Best Lunch deal around. €12.50 for starter/main course/tea or coffee.
