Wiggles (Guru) Credibility Score: 67% Visited: 22 Jul 2010 | Posted: 4 days ago I visited Fallon & Byrne with a friend today to try out the Cafe lunch menu and we had such a refreshingly good experience that I had to write this straight away. We had a light lunch of a salad and a tart. The salad was tasty, very fresh and quite a decent portion considering it was the "small" size. All the food was presented well and I felt that the menu overall was very good value. The staff were very conscientious about my Coeliac diet, even providing gluten free bread with my salad and double-checking ingredients with me. All the staff were wonderful but I would like to single out the maitre d' as being just exceptional: we had an issue with one of our dishes and we were very impressed with how he handled it and his attitude overall. Can't wait to come back. Joined Jun 10 12 Reviews 0 Hats Off! loading... jackjill (Connoisseur) Credibility Score: 35% Visited: 13 Jul 2010 | Posted: 4 days ago Fallon and Byrne is yummy. Good food, great wine and wonderful service. We ate early in the evening, and watched as the place got busier and busier until it was more or less full (On a Tuesday evening too, what happened to the recession?!). I'd really recommend the crab starter, it's delicious - and my burger was good - perhaps the only fault is that it was just too much! Food is consistent too, I'd been just a week earlier, and it was just as good then. Great place.. It is fantastic value and the place is so nice with a lovely atmosphere. The food was amazing. I had the nut roast and my husband had the Steak. The menu is great. They include alot of what is on their normal menu on the Special Menu which is brilliant. The strawberry sundae for desert was amazing. Overall it was great value. The only negative comment I have is that tea/coffee are not included on the menu so we had to pay for this seperately, but I will definitely be back again. The lunchtime specials are super tasty, I especially like the Club sandwich paired with a soup- the carrot & corriander ( i think!) is my favourite. While it's not that cheap, you get very decent portions, and the soup and a sandwich special can keep you all day for sure. Plus their wine selection is to die for! The service was very efficient and the staff were very friendly. We both got 2 rib eye steaks and were cooked perfectly as we ordered. The waitress remembered my boyfriend's birthday and she brought the dessert with a candle. That was a nice thought. Highly recommended. The place was buzzing, almost fully occupied, not somethign I've seen for a long time on a Monday night. I has the tomato soup and sirloin steak which was cooked just the way I asked and my friend has halibut linguine which was nice. We had 2 glasses of wine so the bill came to €48 not bad for a monday night. Will be back :) Joined Jul 08 22 Reviews 0 Hats Off! loading... This time I opted for something different and I really wish I hadn't!! I should start by saying that the best part of the meal was the service and I couldn't fault any of the individuals we had dealings with. We were a party of two and for starters had the crab and the scallops. I had opted for the crab and definately got the raw deal. After almost breaking my tooth on my initial bite I was somewhat tentative about the remainder. It was ok, but nothing special. The scallops on the other hand were perfectly cooked and flavourfull. For the mains we had the hake and the pork belly. Our initial choice of John Dory was not on the menu although it is still being advertised on their web page. I have never had hake before and therfore had no ideal what to expect. The presentation was lovely but that's unfortunately as good as it gets. The hake tasted of nothing, which, despite my lack of knowledge of this particular fish, I'm sure is not the norm. The accompanying potato and veg tasted overwhelmingly of olive oil and something else which I couldn't quite put my finger on but came back to haunt me for the remainder of my night!! Pork belly was well cooked with a lovely crackling however, again the meat had little if any seasoning and the overwhelming flavour was butter. I was trully disappointed with the whole event. Thankfully I was using my 'by one get one free' voucher so the meal overall was ok value. If I had been paying full price I would have been very upset. I think from here on in I'll stick to their cafe downstairs which I know is always great food at considerably better value. It's a nice and bright place, but nothing too special. But with the excellent food i couldn't care less about ambience. The Red Pear and Blue cheese Salad my partner had as a starter was an absolute flavour sensation. My confit chicken Terrine was also a triumph. We had Chicken and Pork Belly as a main and both were equally excellent in terms of presentation and flavour. Speaking of flavour, all of the dishes had the most amazing combination of flavours making this a truly unique experience. The overall service was good. The waiters were attentive and friendly. This being the 1st visit I'll definitely return to see what else is to discover on their menu. << First Page < Prev [Results 1 - 8 of 93] Next > Last Page >>
