Our FX Buckley family butchers have been around Dublin since the times of James Joyce & Ulysses, at our monkstown branch you can eat in both our downstairs gastropub & upstairs in FXB's restaurant. Our pub is open daily from noon with casual food available until 10pm & drinks til closing time. We offer both a 'grazing' & 'a la carte' menu in the pub using fresh seasonal produce serving soups, starters, salads, meats & fresh fish. Upstairs opens at 6pm daily and specialises in steaks sourced directly from Sean Buckleys farm in Offaly & matured by Harry Buckley in our own butchers for 28 days. We pride ourselves on using fresh local produce whenever possible & we are renowned for our friendly service, vibrant atmosphere & value for money Restaurant Reviews Add Your Review » Your Say Joined Mar 10 42 Reviews 0 Hats Off! loading... joyoftraveling (Guru) Credibility Score: 71%   Visited: 22 Jul 2010 | Posted: 2 Weeks ago Normally when I think FXB, I think it should be for an occasion but stepped in last night into the pub section and had a lovely meal. We ate the salmon salad and the open seafood sandwich and they were both really good! The service was quick, the food good and because it was the pub section, it was not as expensive either- all good! :) I'd highly recommend stopping here for a bite! You really aren't getting the best of FXB unless you have a steak they cut like butter and have a great flavor. Also love the ever changing art on the walls. We decided on a drink first and the bar was busy for a Monday. The barman was cranky which I was disappointed with as there is no need. We were going to sit upstairs for the early bird but it was a bit formal so the resturant manager said it was fine to have the early bird downstairs and followed us down with the menu. Staff (exception of the bar man) were all extremelty helpful at one point we had 3 staff bringing things to the table ! I had ceasear salad which was really good, if a bit much and my boyfriend had breaded mushroom which looked a bit old but tasted nice. He has steak and was very pleased with it being cooked as ordered and tasting excellent. I had gone off the early bird menu for another special the lamb shank - it was a lovely flavour and with mash, vegatables and red wine jus - only downside was that it was a little overdone in that the outside of it was a little had - a little disapponitin but flavour made up for it. We had a very nice wine and all in all an enjoyable evening which would have us coming back. Great buzz and the staff were all so efficient and on the ball. looked after us so well. The food was only delicious would def rate the steak as best ever. We had a lovely argentinian wine....... velvety and so smooth. Well done on such a great selection. Keep it up and plenty of parties in the restaurant upstairs and the bar was only hopping with many eating pub grub also. The atmosphere was nice, and more restaurant than 'pub'. I had the Sirloin Steak with Pepper Sauce and it was delicious and perfectly cooked. The sauce might have done with being a little thicker (more to my taste) but it was very nice. I also tried a beer special which I don't remember the name of but which had a "hint of banana" and it was surpringly nice. The service was excellent throughout. Alwayslooken4food (Newbie) Credibility Score: 21%   Visited: 16 Mar 2010 | Posted: over 2 months ago Service was good polite attentive staff who kept a good eye on how we were getting on. The pints were very good, cold fizzy and arrived promptly everytime. The wine was a muga reserva which I've had loads of times and was keenly priced at€27. Now the food, prawns to start which was average, the bread was horrible a real let down, maybe they ran out and picked it up in the spar. The filet was ok for the money with a baked patato which was yum. The Mrs had the medalions of fillet which she found very nice as she hates any blood etc but equally hates her steak over done. I skiped the desert as I was stuffed(with pints!!!)but everyone else said it was nice. Price was very reasonable considering , it worked out at 50 a head Inc the tip. For some reason I had very high expectations about the place, it's good but lacking something, That was my first time in the place and I would go back, but not running. If your looking for a bit of value fxb's is a winner.
