However, the atmosphere and service were great, but the the food this time wasn't the best. I had the king prawn main meal, which was pretty bland to say the least. My partner had the pork, which wasn't presented well, but the flavours were OK. It hasn't put me off, I'm just a little dissapointed. The food and service was very good, and was overall a very pleasant dining experience '); //--> Joined Jul 09 3 Reviews 0 Hats Off! loading... likestodine (Newbie) Credibility Score: 31%   Visited: 19 Jun 2010 | Posted: 2 Weeks ago Came here on a Sunday, and we were delighted to see we were still entitled to the early bird menu. Although there was 4 of us, we opted for the window seat as it was a fab day and we decided it was worth being a little cramped. We could have sat elsewhere! We all opted for the excellent value early bird and we were all very happy with our choices. I went for tuna salad, 2 others went for soup and one went for veg platter. For mains 2 had steak, I had fish and one had veg pasta. All very simple home cooked tastes. Really impressed. Had a couple of coffees and a bottle of wine and it €30 per person with a tip. Will def return! Food was very good value in comparison to the a la carte menu. It was late lunch so the atmosphere was quiet but we really got a sense that it would be a lovely place to eat out in the evening. The decor is nice contemporary glamour. Food was very nice, Platter and chicken salad to start, platter was delicious with a great variety, chicken in the salad was good quality but overall pretty standard. There was a sirlion steak main course which was cooked perfectly and came with lovely thick chips, coq monsieur which was missing mustard and the fried egg but came with lovely chips also, and a tiger prawn main which were very tasty and came with a nice ratatouille.. I would go back again but not in a hurry! Had heard great things about it. The seat we were sitting was in front of the kitchen entrance, 5 times out of 10 when anyway walked by me they kept banging into my chair which was very annoying. The wine list was great and the bottle we choose was lovely. The food was a big let down. I got the Queen Scallops, Montbelliard Sausage for starters, it was very greasy and a but sickening. For the main I got the sea bass, it was nice but not anything to rave about. I was so disappointed with the food here we didn't even bother with a dessert. Overall the service was good but this place was too expensive for what you get and I won't be going back and I do not recommend it either. Joined Sep 08 6 Reviews 0 Hats Off! loading... Mossey (Foodie) Credibility Score: 33%   Visited: 28 May 2010 | Posted: 2 Months ago I really can't find fault with this place. 15 girls went there last weekend. Service was great. Atmosphere was great for us. The other diners may not have enjoyed 15 nattering women!! And the food was divine. We have the pre-theatre menu, options were limited but thats normal. I think every course was ordered by someone and everyone loved thier meal. Would definitely return Joined Jul 09 20 Reviews 0 Hats Off! loading... becl (Connoisseur) Credibility Score: 53%   Visited: 28 May 2010 | Posted: 2 Months ago Went to Hugos for the first time with 3 other lads. The interior is very cosy and homley and not what I expected. Hugos hareem of all female floor staff were professional and pleasant. The menu was well priced and offered a reasonable selection with a strong emphasis on fish. I had the scallops with sausage and white wine and chhese which were delicious. For mains I had a well presented hake dish but which was very overdone and dry. The small cheese board was fine and a reasonable espresso (served with a large teaspoon and those confounded rocks of sugar which dont dissolve) ended the meal. Overall I feel that Hugos is a good restaurant that with a bit of refinement could be great. When booking make sure to say you dont want to be seated in the basement. Penelope Ann (First Timer) Credibility Score: 9%   Visited: 13 May 2010 | Posted: 2 Months ago When one of our party of seven asked for a scoop of vanillia ice-cream instead of the set early bird desserts he was told that he could only have ice-cream if he ordered a dessert that came with ice-cream!!!!! I couldn't believe how unaccomedationg some of the staff were considering that there is a shop next door that sells ice-cream by the tub. Also the staks ordered for main course weren't cooked to order and by the time they were re-cooked everyone else had finished their meal. I was so disappointed with the place as I had heard such rave reviews :( << First Page < Prev [Results 1 - 8 of 56] Next > Last Page >>
