Papaya lies in the basement of the impressive looking No. 8 Ely Place, in the heart of Georgian Dublin. The restaurant is dominated by a large fireplace which makes it a very cosy experience. The service is very good and the menu is reasonably priced. I love this place, I've never had a bad meal and have always felt welcome. Perhaps we visit a little too much, the manager recognises us now! Last visit was on the 13th - we had a very long, relaxing meal. I had the seafood salad to start, boy did it have a kick! For main course I normally go for a curry but this time opted for the scallops, they were amazing and really filling. A mint parfait finished the meal and we were both very happy campers. Thumbs up again papaya. POSTED 20/12/07: This has always been my favourite Thai restaurant in Dublin. The food is always excellent and they are so friendly and welcoming. Its always a great place for a romantic dinner for two or for a group outing. Keep up the good work. The restaurant is so cosy, a lovely roaring fire and the place was buzzing. The staff was the nicest we've encountered in any restaurant - so helpful and attentive but not pushy in any way, we were really allowed to relax even after our meal we were left to finish our wine and not rushed out! The food was really tasty and such great value. We were given a great big portion of rice - not usual in other restaurants these days. He ordered duck with pineapple for 15 euro and was served a full pineapple halved with what must have been a full duck on top! The wine was lovely too. We were shocked at the great value when the bill arrived, and have vowed to come back here very often! Roaring fire, great service and tasty food. 2 courses, coffee + half a bottle of wine each, including tip came to a mere 30euro. Fantastic location for a pre National Concert Hall dinner. Lunch menu is great value @ €13 for starter main and tea/coffee and there is a huge selection to choose from. I went for the chicken satay and thai green curry and it was delicious. Never have a complaint about this place! '); //--> Joined Sep 09 13 Reviews 0 Hats Off! loading... The food is great, the yellow thai curry is the most amazing I've ever eaten (in any restaurant in Dublin). Definately recommend it! Restaurant was very quiet so not much atmosphere but as we were in a group it didn't matter. We mostly ate from the early bird menu - which I found to be slightly different from the one listed on their website - but still very good nevertheless. For starter I had the coconut soup it was gorgeous, and everyone else was happy with their starters too. For main I had prawns & cashew nuts which was yum - a lot of big juicy prawns & the sauce & veg was lovely. My sister got the 'BBQ beef' (which I think is the 'beef with black peppercorn' from the site menu as it did taste more like that description) and this was really gorgeous. I tasted my other friends green curry & it was lovely - again all mains very well received. They also give you huge bowls of rice which is great as I hate when you get only a small bowl & maybe would like a few extra spoonfuls but not enough to order an extra portion. I had just vanilla icecream for dessert and it was really good quality. A coffee each & once the bill was split it all worked out really reasonable. I am planning to come back here with my boyfriend soon - we were in thailand for a few weeks last year & both love thai food - its hard to find a good thai place in Dublin that isn't a touch 'chinese-y' but this seems to be one. Early bird is amazing value. Location is great, staff friendly & food delicious & very high quality, ill definitely be back. I'd never been to this restaurant before but the good reviews here on menupages convinced me to give it a go. Service was excellent, not over the top or pushy, but very friendly and efficient. The food was superb, after a sushi-style salmon starter I went for a Yellow coconut beef curry (something I'd never tried before) which was delicious. My dining partner had ordered a Teriyaki Salmon dish, unfortunately this wasn't available but Sea bass was offered as an alternative which was also excellent. In total 3 courses for 2 people came to just over €50 which I was perfectly happy with. I'd certainly go back.
