Aisl (Connoisseur) Credibility Score: 37% Visited: 14 Jul 2010 | Posted: 2 Weeks ago My friend and I ate here last night. We opted fof the early bird menu which offers superb value. 2 courses - €22. Before we began, i got a little lost ( mortified - the service is that good an amazingly friendly and kind waiter actually came and collected me from outside O Donoghues.) On arrival my friend was waiting at the bar - the only tiny complaint i would have is the glass of wine she got was €9.50 - a little steep to be fair!! We both ordered the prawns in filo pastry with a mango dressing - very light and delicate. For main course I had pork chops -thick, meaty, succulent and juicy. They were served with puy lentils - serious flavour. The balsamic was perfect with this dish and the potatoes were so creamy and smooth. The chciken dish was simple but perfectly executed. A beautiful bottle of sommieliers choice - sauingnon blanc - €28.00. We did not order dessert but got 2 gorgeous little chocolates with the bill. All in €85.00 (without tip). Overall fantastic service, great food and i would highly recommend it. It was the best overall restaurant experience I have experienced in quite a while. The food, service, staff and setting were all perfect. I had the risotto to start & my boyfriend had tiger prawns and we also shared 1/2 dozen oysters. For the main I had the king scallops and he had the veal. Everything we got was delicious and the presentation of the food was fabulous. I was really so impressed with the staff. All the staff we came in contact with were so professional and polite & really added to making this a brilliant meal.Cant recommend this restaurant highly enough. From the bespoke cocktails on arrival to the wonderful cozy booth, to the friendly attentive service, we couldnt have been made to feel more welcome. And the food! My starter of mushroom soup was a sublime example, perfectly complemented by a little oxtail tortellini. My partner had the foie gras - not sure what a previous reviewer meant by tasting old? but having eated foie gras in some of the worlds top restaurants this one definitely holds up... Mains of pork and tuna were simply perfect, and the meal ended with a symphony of raspberry and a divine chocolate fondant. All of the above partnered by a perfectly chosen wine reccomended by our waiter and really what more can i say? Perfection... The other mains of scallops and fillet steak were throughly enjoyed by my fellow diners. My only small gripe would be that the wine menu was slighly on the expensive side having said that the house recommended wines were excellent. I would definitely go back again! We arrived and were brought to our table by a very friendly waiter. Really liked the docor here and the fish tank. For starter I had the Chicken, ham terrine, which was lovely and my boyfriend had the Foie Gras which he said tasted old and was disapointing. For mails we both choose the Hallibut which we both thought was small and was not very inspiring for €31.We got a side of mash which were ok the Petit Pois were very overcooked. We decided to share a chocolate fondont which was prob the highlight of the meal. Overall I was disappointed with Pearl and I think there are other restaurents offering better quality food for lower prices. I will not be returning soon. We were greated and brought to our table for eight in one of the lovely alcoves. We started with cocktails, I went with the waiters recommendation of the Raspberry Champagne cocktail, delicious. For starters I went for the Chicken & Ham-hock Terraine and for main I had the Cod, both were fantastic! For dessert I choose the Chocolate Fondant, which was to die for. The service was excellent, very professional and the atmosphere was relaxed. We all agreed it was a real treat and a memorable experience. It's one of those places which makes you feel like Royalty from the minute you arrive. And the food & wine....well I'm still thinking about them a week later! We were pleasantly surprised at how full the restaurant was. We were welcomed & shown straight to our table. All of the staff were on top of their game. My husband chose 'Pan-fried Duck Foie Gras-Served on Toasted Brioche with rhubarb & strawberry Compote' to start and enjoyed every morsel of it. I went for the 'Jumbo Tiger Prawn Tempura - Marinated Bean Sprouts & Mild Chili Dressing'. My taste buds appreciated having this different take on how prawns are usually accompanied. Even though the speciality is seafood; we couldn't resist 'Aged Irish Beef -Fillet, braised cheek, celeriac, pickled mushrooms, red wine jus' for main course. It was so tender it fell off the bone & was perfection.Though,in hindsight it probably would have been more appropriate to have gone for a lighter seafood maincourse. Our eyes were definitely bigger than our bellies because we opted for all courses and side dishes like 'belle maman' makes them. And then there were the 3 complimentary mini courses which we had forgotten to anticipate. First was an Asian syle cup of consomme, later came a pallette -cleansing, delicious mango sorbet. Closing the meal we loved the little touch of the melt-in-your-mouth truffles served with coffee. For dessert I couldn't resist the chocolate fondant which had just the right goo-y-ness. Cheri opted for more sorbet, We narrowed the wine list down to 4 choices and took the waiter's advice which one would best compliment our meal. The Vacqueyras was strong enough to accompany our beef but not overpowering. The meal was a total blow-out. Our bill for 2 for all of the above plus water plus 12% service charge was €199.86. I recommend Pearl for a treat and let's face it birthdays only happen once a year. << First Page < Prev [Results 1 - 8 of 29] Next > Last Page >>
