The Red Bank was founded by the McCoys in 1983 and has been a success right from the start. They have won many awards for good food including the Egon Ronay Seafood Restaurant of the Year. The staff here always provide a warm welcome. Tonight I had a celery soup, mushrooms oporto for starters and prawns Napoleon for my main. My dining companion had a black pudding starter and a chicken main. We then both chose delicious deserts from the famous desert trolley. It is great being able to view the trolley and choose exactly what you want. I must also say at this point that the prawns here are among the best I have ever tasted perfectly cooked. The atmosphere here was very good and the restaurant was practically full. We also had a visit to our table from the owner to check if everything was alright which for me is good p.r. The early bird menu offers excellent value for money. I would recommend the red bank for a visit you will not be disappointed. I look forward to my next visit here. We go here pretty regularly and the food is always good, The portions are quite generous. I had the cheese parcel which I liked but could have left the dressing. Son & Father had the crab and were very happy. We had the salmon, lamb and pork for mains. Again everyone happy. We had to find room for desert not because we were still hungry just plain greed and needed a sugar fix. The pavlova and gluten free desert cake was delic. The staff are very friendly and professional as usual and there is a nice releaxed athmosphere. Its not a place to go if your in a hurry or on a diet! non the less would recommend it highly its consistantly good. While the food was beautiful (in particular the crab starter), I wasn't impressed overall. I wasn't too keen on the waiting room which I felt was like my granny's living room and once seated I felt like the service was a little OVER attentive. I can't complain about the food - but all the same I won't be in a rush back. I also thought that the whole experience was a little on the expensive side. The menu is limited if you don't like fish but there should be something for everyone. The service is very good but the interior really needs a makeover, its a bit run down and very old fashioned ( but not in a good way ). The chef also has a bit of a big ego with pictures of himself everywhere, it reminded me of the wall of gaylord in 'meet the Fockers ' !!
