I love the place, the atmosphere, the food and the service. The fish and chips, never dissapoints. Joined Dec 06 73 Reviews 0 Hats Off! loading... Pi31415 (Guru) Credibility Score: 88%   Visited: 25 Jul 2010 | Posted: last week Called in for breakfast on a busy Sunday morning. Five of sat down to eat and five very happy customers left. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble - in spite of the fact that we changed orders and added additional dishes mid-order. Today was very much a 'class act' and the food was great. I could only manage boiled eggs with toast and a side order of sausage but it was delicious. I had to help my grown daughters with their scrambled egg and hash brown - but sometimes you have to do what you have to do! I was very pleasantly surprised at the bill - especially as one of the side dishes which was not ordered (but eaten) was deliberately left off the bill. I know that Roly's can have 'off days' but the vast majority of my visits have been wonderful. And long may it continue. I have to say, it was the worst lunch I have had in Roly's ever, and the service was rude to say the least! I didn't enjoy my meal, as I felt we were an inconvenience to you, an annoyance, and to be gotten out as soon as possible. I'm aware you had dinner sittings at 6pm, and we had booked our table for 2.45 which should have being sufficient time, but to hoover around our feet was the height of rudeness. We ate as fast as we possibly could, but it was at least 20/30 minutes before our orders were taken, despite us being ready to order almost immediately. This delay was on your side, not ours. I acknowledge we were running late and only sat at 3, but it was your serving team's prerogative to serve us promptly. In addition to this, we were cramped onto a table that was a squeeze for 10 people, never mind 11. One waitress kept serving my colleague to my right via my face, in that despite the fact we were both sitting on the outside of the table, and she could have served him from his left or right, she served both the main course, dessert and coffee by putting her hand in front of my face and dropping the plates down. For an establishment that is supposed to have a fine dining reputation, I saw none of this in effect yesterday. Due to being in a work group I didn't want to cause a fuss in front of everyone at the time, but my colleague also commented that the waitress kept trying to take the nose of me. And the staff kept trying to clear the table even though people had not finished eating. To top it all, when we were 'politely' told dinner was starting, could we leave please, one member of our party hadn't yet received her Irish Coffee which she had ordered when the rest of us had ordered dessert. She then had to knock it back as we had finished our desserts, were being hoovered out of the place. Wild Mushroom and Chicken Terrine, Hazelnut Mayonnaise, Green Bean Salad for starters, very tasty. Poached Fillet of Salmon with Watercress, Orange and Fennel Salad, Citrus Dressing for mains with a large amount of vegetables. The salmon was one of the nicest fish dish that I have had in long time. Strawberry Pavlova with White Chocolate Sauce for dessert, fabulous. The venue has a very classic feel with white table cloths etc. Service was excellent and the lunch set menu is very reasonable. I would high recommend and already planning a return visit. My husband had the set menu which is very good value at €22.95 for 3 courses. I dined from the main menu which I still found to be good value. We were waiting a little while for our starters but the manageress saw this and came over to us, apologised and gave us a complimentary drink each. This is exactly the way this should have been handled - address the problem before it becomes a complaint. She told us we wouldn't be waiting as long for our main course and we weren't. The food was very good quality overall and my husband with the sweet tooth was very impressed with the range of desserts on display! A very good dining experience overall and will be back. The restaurant is comfortable and the staff were friendly there was four in our party, once we were settled the waiter came over to offer the homemade bread, it is delicious we tried all the flavours, it is not to be missed. For starters we had two prawn cocktails, and two goats cheese bruschetta, the prawn cocktails were lovely with a generous portion of prawns the bruschetta's were delicious good balance of flavours. We followed this with two Kerry pies, these are lamb pies and have been on the menu due to popular demand for years they were delicious, the other two mains were duck and vegetable tart with salad, there was a couple of side orders of vegetables and potatoes. We had two bottles of Italian red wine; we finished off the meal with teas and coffee no room for dessert. The bill came to 245.00 euro which is an expensive night out. It was a special occasion and we took our time over a lovely meal, is it worth that price, I am not sure? Would I go back yes, I will definitely try the café style bistro downstairs were they seem to be offering great value and if the food is as good we could go more often. The food was bland, what you'd see on any half decent pub menu. My starter, bruschetta was very tasty with lots of great flavours. I ordered my steak rare and got it medium rare, my husband ordered his medium rare and got it served medium. That's a very basic thing to have failed to get right. My dessert, lemon tart was bland and the service was borderline rude. This diner is definitely not returning. Very affordable with high quality, well presented food. Service is - as it always was - excellent. Breakfast in the Bistro is delicious and original, AND cheaper than breakfast than nearby - with a considerable gap in quality between the two. Surely can't be beaten on value << First Page < Prev [Results 1 - 8 of 54] Next > Last Page >>
