In addition to a creative and sumptuous menu, which features traditional steaks and Ireland's native seafood combined with hearty side dishes and exquisite pastries, Shanahan's has the finest in gracious service. The elegance of the food and service, however, is maintained in perfect harmony with the warmth, which personifies Ireland's population, and a casual atmosphere that allows each patron to feel at home. From "The Oval Office", the restaurant's downstairs bar featuring historical documents and mementoes from each of America's presidents of Irish Heritage to the dining and private rooms which reflect the exquisite Irish workmanship of both the building's heritage and today, Shanahan's is a blend of both cultures and history. To predict the success of this unique blending process is simple when Shanahan's on the Green is viewed as a reflection of its founder, John M. Shanahan. An American entrepreneur who maintains dual citizenship in Ireland and the United States, Mr. Shanahan has long been recognized for his creativity and innovation in the merger of the philosophies underlying product development, marketing and service. To Shanahan's on the Green, he has brought his pride in his Irish heritage and his love of both the warmth and beauty which defines the Irish spirit combined with his American upbringing and the principals of marketing and service established in the competitive American market place. Mr. Shanahan embarked upon Shanahan's on the Green to capture the opportunity to bring together his love of cooking and gourmet fare with his passion for Ireland and the heritage which he has always credited as the source of his creative spirit. Shanahan's on the Green indeed encapsulates that Irish magic and American finesse and brings to its patrons and staff a sense of the pure pleasure the marriage of these two cultures is destined to establish. We are closed 25th, 26th, 27th of December. We re-open for dinner on December 28th. I had been advised that it was pricey and went in with the knowledge that I would be paying top doller and was so hoping that the food would live up to the price tag. Well I was not dissapointed it was fantastic. From the bread hand cut at the table (Don't Fill up on bread its very easy to do but you will regret it later), to the fantastic selection of sorbets & ice creams for dessert it was perfection. I had the Crab starter & my girlfriend had the soup, both were perfect. The top prise however must go to my fillet steak which you could have eaten with a spoon. Do not be tempted to get the large portion of onion strings or fries as you will have more then enough in the regular size portion. The large which I saw being delevered to another table oppsite could have been enough for 4 people or more. The only gripe I might have was that the atmosphere was ruined by a loud and obnoxious crowd at the table oppsite but there was nothing the restaurant could do about that really. All in all total perfection and I will return no doubt. Considering places considerably worse than here will charge in the region of €30 for a steak, this place actually becomes something akin to value. Main course was so large and filling that it was the only thing needed (apart from a bottle of wine and an amazing martini). Ordered the filet mignon with foie gras, which was without doubt the best steak I have ever eaten. With this (and four people to a table) only two side orders were needed. Mash and their onion strings. Two sides did four people, but in truth those onions could have provided for many more, I think there is a smaller portion available, think we should have ordered this. The service was fantastic, our waiter was so attentive, and knowledgeable and helpful, all as expected from reputation, but still such a joy! There was nothing I did not like about this place, apart from the fact that I cannot eat here more often because of budgetary reasons. '); //--> Joined Jan 09 33 Reviews 0 Hats Off! loading... Dejeuner (Guru) Credibility Score: 71% Visited: 02 Jul 2010 | Posted: 3 Weeks ago Having looked forward to this visit I was disappointed when I went for a special occasion. Overpriced and underwhelming is my lasting impression. While the steaks themsleves were very good, they aren't worth nearly 50 euro each. We ordered a few sides and unknowingly were presented with large portions of each, for which we were charged double. The bread, which I've read many great reviews of, was very good but not good enough for me to return to pay such exorbitant prices. At 100 euro a head for a main course, some sides and wine its up there with tasting menus but the menu doesn't deliver. I certainly won't be returning. We had the shrimp and salmon for starters, both had steaks with sides we couldn't even finish and we had the fondant and cheesecake to finish...so much food! and all delicious, service was exceptional, and we even got complimetary prosecco as we were there for a birthday, will definatley return for a treat soon! They accomodated several changes of date (due to my eating partner's availability) with good grace. They accomodated several requests on the night in question (minor enough, however each was accepted and honoured with equal good grace). The food was the usual... uber-fresh, perfectly cooked, amazingly presented, tasty, delicious. The staff were the usual... friendly, kind, accomodating, chatty, the right amount of attentive but not obsequious or sycophantic. I think their Appletinis are the best in Dublin, their Guinness apparently also perfect, their mussels probably the freshest I've ever eaten, the steaks cooked perfectly and served exactly as they should be, the side orders as tasty as ever... No stars removed for them this time I've eaten there, or the number of other times I've been there... not cheap but an amazing experience everytime... Its a lovely cosy spot for dinner for 2. We started with the Shrimp cocktail which was delicious. We also received a loaf of piping hot crispy cheese bread and a corn bread cake. Too good for words. Then the mains. Steak of course. A petit filet for my wife and the filet Mignon ( bigger ) for me. The menu explains exactly what way a steak is cooked so you can ask for the cooking that suits you. After discussion with our charming server we opted for Medium Rare Steaks with potato mash and onion strings. We had a bottle of Spanish Rec to wash it down. The steaks were wonderful and enormous. Cooked to perfection just like it said on the menu. No overcooking here !!. A great meal with great service. Not cheap , but worth every cent. Will definately be back soon. We ate like royalty, we were treated like royalty, you get what you pay for. The bread is definately the 'tastes like more' variety, the mussels and salmon starters were devine, my husband's steak was the 'best ever' and my dinner of fries and the onion rings sides was heaven! No space for dessert unfortunately and my only gripe would be the price of the wine list but I guess they don't want 'regular' people all the time. No sign of a recession here on this Saturday night....Maybe they could open the menu a bit more but I guess it is a steak/seafood house........... Joined Jan 09 35 Reviews 0 Hats Off! loading... Toulouse (Guru) Credibility Score: 75% Visited: 19 Mar 2010 | Posted: over 2 months ago Highly recommended! I was taken here by my partner for a birthday treat and all I can say is that it was easily the best birthday present I have ever received! At Shanahan's you are treated as a friend, not a customer. As soon as we walked through the door we were warmly welcomed and brought down to the Oval Office for a pre-dinner drink as we were early. We had the best Bloody Mary I've tasted for a long long time and an Appletini that didn't quite measure up to the aforementioned Bloody Mary. In the warm comfortable surroundings of the bar we perused our menus, relaxed and chatted with the super friendly staff. Finally it was time for dinner and we were led upstairs. As we weren't in the mood for wine we ordered 2 more excellent Bloody Marys and chose the small Caeser Salad and a crab and potato dish to start. We were also served some excellent bread. It was warm, crusty and delicious. My salad was exquisite, the portion was huge. My partners crab and potato rosti dish was not quite as successful, it was a bit over-coloured in places and he could taste burnt potato which overpowered the crab. For our mains I had the sirloin and he had rib-eye. Both cooked to perfection and perfectly delicious. Our sides consisted of fabulous onion rings, fries and oven roasted cherry tomatoes. We could have easily done without the fries. To finish we were brought complimentary petit fours and champagne as my partner had mentioned my birthday when booking. Such a lovely touch and really appreciated. Our lovely waitress was a star all night but her french male counterpart was a bit standoffish. Overall, dining at Shanahans is an experience I would recommend to anyone, I cannot wait to return. << First Page < Prev [Results 1 - 8 of 32] Next > Last Page >>
