'Ireland's first and only gastro pub and beer hall, providing restaurant quality food in a pub style atmosphere. Owned and run by FXB, all our beef comes from our own home farm in Co. Offaly and all our fish is Irish and bought in fresh daily. We also match different styles of beer with our food menu, providing an interesting twist to dining. Upstairs our beer hall stocks over 150 different beers from around the world and we are a premiere distributor of Irish craft beers. We had booked our table in advance. The pub was very busy with people eating. There was a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Our waitress was excellent and we were well looked after. We all had starters and a main course. The food was delicious and good value for money. An excelent place for food and a fw beers. I look forward to going there again sooon. Atmosphere was good, world cup match on etc etc. I ordered a 12oz Rib-Eye steak and chips while my better half went for the Guinness Beef Stew. My steak was ordered medium rare, yet it comes out well done and tough. The sauce and chips were very good though. What really annoyed me was after spending up on €50, (2 mains & 2 pints) not once did the waitress ask if everything was to our liking etc. Even when paying at the bar, the bar man was busy talking to someone else to even ask 'how was your meal?' To be honest, I'm very disappointed in my experience, in particular when a restaurant that specialises in steaks can't cook them correctly!! Unfortunately the ribs were not available and the salmon was off the menu. We settled instead on some Chicken Supremes and Steak Sandwiches. Sorely dissapointed with both dishes. And that's the problem with FXB - they do a few things really well, and everything else is merely mediocre. Enjoyed the Trappist beers though. Joined Apr 10 4 Reviews 0 Hats Off! loading... We had a reservation for 7.30pm and the restaurant was already very busy, as expected for a Friday night. The service was excellent and our group size was handled with ease. The majority of the group ordered steak dishes and were not disappointed (€23-€26.50). Generous cuts of nicely cooked meat were served although the sides on the plate were not very generous. In most cases, vegetables and potatoes had to be ordered separately which meant all that was arrived on the plate was the cut of meat! I had fish as a main course and I was a little disappointed with the quantity of fish. However, the food was delicious and we had ordered plenty of sides to fill us up. The selection of beers was fantastic – it took us ages to decide what we wanted. The various stouts were all sampled and enjoyed. Overall, a good experience was had by all. Its the best FXB restaurant I've been to. The steak is fab. I normally get the fillet but this time they had none left so I got the sirloin and it was just as good. Cant wait to go back again 17/5/2010........After writing this review I couldn't get this restaurant out of my head so I ended up going there again on Sat 15th May. The fillet steak is that good! They have a terrific selection of Irish microbrewed beer as well as imports that you can't get anywhere else in Dublin. Last week they had Sierra Nevada Pale Ale on draught. The food at the Bull and Castle is pretty traditional pub fare, with a lot of meaty and potatoey dishes. Being a vegetarian myself there is usually only one or two choices, but the food is always good. The services is great, and the atmosphere is very inviting. You can have dinner in the wood-paneled restaurant downstairs, and then move upstairs to the beer hall for a pint. All together a nice place to eat and drink.
