The Gables Restaurant and Wine Bar is situated in the pretty village of Foxrock, one of South Dublin’s most affluent areas. Set in an old Victorian property that once housed Findlaters food shop, The Gables has kept with the theme of offering Fine Wine and Food. We are a 65 seater restaurant with adjoining Wine Shop serving Bistro style food throughout the day, 7 days a week. The Gables is the perfect place to relax over a cup of coffee, waste away a Sunday afternoon over brunch and the paper, have a more formal dinner or even just a glass of wine from our extensive list with some tapas. We look forward to welcoming you no matter the occasion. We go regularly. I wish though that they would bring back the gluten free bagels - they were delicious. I'm a coeliac and being able to have a full meal with bread included is still a novelty in Dublin Restaurants...... My colleagues enjoyed their dishes, a sea bream special and a delicious-looking slow roast pork belly dish. we had a bottle of house white, which was good value and very tasty! The service was a little slack, but the staff were friendly, just not that attentive! Will definitley return with the family soon to explore the menu in further detail! Firstly, I would like to thank the Gables for being OPEN on a bank holiday Monday!! It was near impossible to find a quality restaurant that was open for lunch. I really liked that the menu included both the usual brunch options and items that would more typically be seen on an evening menu - there was great variety and choice. Three of the party opted for the delicious crayfish risotto, and our fourth member had the fish and chips. Our order was promptly taken, wine brought to the table, and food delivered in a timely manner. And then it got frustrating! Tables were cleared and we weren't asked if we would like anything else. After 15 minutes it was clear that nobody was going to come back to us, so I caught the waitress' attention and ordered 2 coffees. 10 minutes and another glare later, the coffees (which were visibly sitting on the counter waiting to be collected) were grabbed and brought to us. I realise that this is a very minor incident, but it's just irritating because it's so avoidable! 2 coffees should not add half an hour on to lunch. I mentioned it when paying my bill and was assured that the matter would be discussed with relevant servers. The set lunch on the day was very good, varied and good value - €20 for any starter and main. I had the Chicken and Cheese Caesar Salad to begin with, quite nice, not too filling and lovely crunchy fresh veg. My main was the 6oz striploin with chips. I requested that this be cooked medium, but what was served was closer to well done. My steak had little or no juice left and was quite hard. Couldn't fault the presentation - the chunky chips were lovely, but the steaks need to be cooked as per customer's order. To me this would be a great spot to waste away a Sunday morning as it has a real relaxed feeling about it. Our food was very good and the service could barely be faulted. All in ll the cost was slightly expensive but the charm of the place made up for it and I will be back Joined Feb 08 29 Reviews 2 Hats Off! loading... eatsoutlots (Guru) Credibility Score: 66%   Visited: 06 Mar 2010 | Posted: over 2 months ago went here for dinner on saturday night with a group of 5 people and really enjoyed it. it has a very affordable wine menu which we ordered a lovely bottle of new zealand wine for €21.3 of us opted for the tapas for starters which were really good and then between us all we had fish pie, fish and chips, seabass, noodles etc.plenty of choice on menu and some nice specials on that day also. we also shared a few desserts mine was a chocolate brownie with ice cream yum!! the service was very good not once did we have to wait.we each paid €45 so i think was great value. definately would go back if a little far away. Tremendous selection of wines by the glass and the affiliation to McCabes off licence in the same building means there is plenty of quality on the wine list for all price brackets. Food is excellent and combinations are really good - my pork dish was really sublime. My wife's fish (seabass) was excellent although she it was "swimming" in a creamy sauce that wasn't mentioned on the menu - but it didn't put her off what we both agreed was an excellent meal. Tapas option great if you are in wine drinking mood but don't fancy the whole 2 or 3-course sit down session. << First Page < Prev [Results 1 - 8 of 17] Next > Last Page >>
