The Port House, owned by The Porterhouse Group which in addition owns the renowned Lillie’s Bordello on Grafton Street. Port House serves an array of tapas and pintxos as well as an extensive range of fine wines, ports and sherries Located at 64A South William Street this beautiful and solely candle lit wine cavern has been stripped back to its original features. Wine educated staff are on hand to help you choose your bottle from the shelf while sampling the different types of pintxos and tapas. Commenting on the opening, director, Lee Sim of The Porterhouse Group said, “We want to create something different in Dublin, a traditional Spanish tapas bar where one can relax, have a glass of wine and some pintxos without having a full three course meal. It will be your typical Spanish tapas bar with varied pintxos displays, but in true Spanish style, will have a limited table service.” The Port House wine list is wide, varied and full of interesting wines, ports and sherries at a very reasonable price. All pretty okay, similar dishes (possibly the same? ) as its sister venue Pintxos. It does exactly what it says on the tin, pretty simple but tasty enough tapas at very, very reasonable prices. We ordered a couple of dishes to share between us. A firm favourite have to be their deep fried prawns - they are lovely and crisp & the dipping garlic sauce is good too. The potatas bravas with a mojo sauce were also excellent. Shared a cheese plate with crackers - fabulous, along with a couple of glasses of a nice rich red it was a lovely meal. The place was packed too, which shows that this place is still a very popular spot! Always busy, friendly staff, good food, great wine. Love the cavern style. Keep doing the great work! The calamari is great, the black pudding chickpea and spinach is fab! Upstairs has a different feel and might be more suited to groups or girls night. Service is good but you cannot reserve a table so prepare to wait for 10 - 25 mins for one - its worth it! There is an outdoor area but I wouldn't eat there its small and right on the street, a look upstairs would be good too. In summary fab food, good service, great experience with hardly any faults. It is a really enjoyable eating experience, I'll defo be back! (Recession how are ye?!- that said they do offer the type of value you'd normally expect to get only when you're abroad. Glass of red for €3.50?! and a bill of less than €35 for 5 tasty tapas - and the glass of vino). Such a lovely romantic candle lit cavern atmosphere ..(distrubed a little by the loud ladies beside us, but hey - we've all been there!) Regular winners in the Port House for me are: the huge calamari and patatas bravas...Last night we also tried: gambas pil pil and the scallops in breadcrumbs with serano ham... talk about treating your tastebuds! Great location, great food - Port House is an all round great spot! We ate upstairs which is really nice. A romantice atmosphere and a nice distance between the tables. It was very noisy downstairs. We ordered a selection of tapas and a bottle of red Portuguese wine. All very good and reasonable value. Ill say its a once off but service was messy, girl was nice though. Arrived late and felt we were not wanted. Maybe im being a bit picky. Chicken dishes a bit overdone, prawnn pil pil delicious, meatballs a bit cold. bread quite basic choice. friendly enough staff. great place for a date. << First Page < Prev [Results 1 - 8 of 84] Next > Last Page >>
