DConMan (First Timer) Credibility Score: 18% Visited: 01 Jul 2010 | Posted: last month Popped in for a bite to eat with my partner and our 16mth baby. Arrived in around 2pm.noticed a number of tables to be cleaned and but it down to a busy lunch. Picked a clean table, after about 5 mins my partner went to the bar to order a drink and get food heated for baby. The barman was on his own and no floor staff for the duration of my visit. A soup bowl of hot water was how we had to heat the food. We ordered our food from the abrupt server and our food arrived far too quickly from time of order???? two other people came and went while we were there. Had to go looking for same server to pay my bill and was left waiting a good 5 mins to pay my bill in an empty pub. I could go on and in more detail, why bother. This is one pub I will never go back to. Myself and himself usually go every 2 wks or so. I love their chicken wings, which are a bargain - €10 for a huge bowl! Himself usually variates between burgers and pizza's, which are always very tasty too! During the wk, pizzas and burgers are only €10 too, and they're huge! Service is usually great, never have to wait too long for food or drink - even when it's really busy. Dissapointed that they only opened at 3pm midweek, although the doors didn't actually open at 3pm and we had to ring them to open the doors. Ordered the platters and have to say wasn't really impressed, maybe my expectations were a little high as the food is usually really nice and good value for money. at €24.95 a platter they were fairly bland in taste nothing much to them. Don't normally bring the kids and found this time it was not particularly family friendly, no changing facilities for babys and toilets are located at a lower ground level. Had steak (EUR21) - was ok but vegetables described as "grilled" were not as you would expect. Basically boiled & tasteless - disappointing. Pepper sauce was ordinary enough too. My friend's Burger & chips were nice though. Good atmosphere. Service fine earlier in the evening but got patchy after 9pm as they were very busy. Toilets were a disaster - dirty and several of the doors did not lock properly. Have eaten regularly here before and have always been quite pleased but last night was a real let down! Nothing better then heading to the Porter house after work on a friday. I usually go for the porter house ale pie, fantastic! This is usually served with mash, peas and gravy washed down with a cold pint of chiller. My idea of bliss on a Friday evening. Hight recommended. The food is nice as pub food goes.I found the yorkshire pudding with the bangers and mash a little odd and it did nothing for the meal. However, there is a great selection on the menu so you can also find something to suit everyone. The service has always been good and there is generally a nice atmosphere in the place. We are regulars here and the atmosphere is always great, especially on a relaxing sunday. The service was excellent, we weren't waiting too long on the food. I was a bit disappointed to find they had taken my favourite pizza off the menu but i just took the option to make up my own pizza and it worked out fine this way. Thank you for a lovely dinner. << First Page < Prev [Results 1 - 8 of 22] Next > Last Page >>
