We seized the opportunity today while in Dalkey, to visit the Queens – always looks very inviting when passing by. Patio was quite busy but we managed to get a table. Things got off to a bad start when my lunch companion asked for something she’d seen on the menu displayed at the front of the pub. The waitress very rudely slapped a menu down on the table and pointed out that the menu on display out front was the Evening Menu which is different to the Lunch Menu. I ordered a Chicken Caesar Salad (€2 extra for the chicken, which is a bit steep, but I knew that before ordering). Service was prompt but my salad was most unimpressive. Apart from it being the most expensive Chicken Caesar Salad I’ve ever had (at €10.95 – is this because it’s Dalkey??) there wasn’t the slightest hint of a taste of Caesar dressing. It didn't actually taste of anything, and was very disappointing. Two salads, a side order of cheesy garlic potatoes [a tiny portion I might add] some cool drinks and two coffees came to just under €38 – dear enough for lunch and far too dear for what was delivered to our table. Would probably have to remortgage the house to have an evening meal there! Won’t be paying a return visit to the Queens. As you can imagine after a long walk we were pretty hungry. From ordering to getting our food was almost an hour! It was busy enough but not really busy! That was the third time I had been there and the same thing happened each time. Its a shame because the food is nice and its a nice pub but it would put me off going again as I don't like to spend 2 hours having lunch! It was very busy with the rugby on and there was a nice buzz in the place. I had a steak sandwich. It was cooked prefectly and came with plenty of mushrooms and onions and a nice enough peppercorn sause. Everyone else in the group seemed delighted with theirs too. It's a little on the expensive side for pub fare. The service was impeccable. Service was good and fast, food was absolutely delicious, I had the seafood chowder and a small side salad and I was stuffed! Chowder was excellent. My partner had the club sandwich which came will the best chips I’ve had in a while. Great value with most main course around ten euros, will definitely becoming back soon. The service is very good. There’s a lovely relaxed and cosy atmosphere with fires lighting and hidden little nooks to sit in. It’s a nice place to lunch and you never know who you’ll meet. I saw Jonathan Rhys Meyers there before! Joined Jan 10 2 Reviews 0 Hats Off! loading... VegasKnows (Newbie) Credibility Score: 19%   Visited: 08 Dec 2009 | Posted: over 2 months ago I generally go here every Sunday for Lunch. Its probably 3 times a month that i visit it. Great local. I usually go for the Chicken Wings, which 8 out of 10 times they are fantastic. I have dabbled it other items which are always quite tasty. Service can be a bit hit and miss. depends on the girl. Sometimes it feels that there is not to much organisation on the floor. << First Page < Prev [Results 1 - 8 of 10] Next > Last Page >>
