Service is normally good and usually a good crowd in so a good atmosphere. Haven't tried the cinema deal yet but appears to be great value. Having read the reviews here we thought we would treat ourselves to a nice bite to eat. On the good side, the staff were polite and friendly. Now for the bad part …. I had the Chicken Cordon Blue with fries and it was utterly dreadful. The chicken was as hard as a rock with a lump of ham obviously from the Sunday roast thrown into it. The cheese sauce was nearly inedible too. She had the scampi which again she found quite nasty. They were covered in oil and cold in the middle. The tartar sauce she had with them seemed to be well past its best and was sour and watery. We will never be returning to the Orchard again. One of the best places on the South-Side to eat out for a casual meal with kids in tow! Very family friendly - menu which hasn't changed much in yrs but has no need to as place always busy & food is reliable. Service I have found is always above average & chefs more than accomadating with smaller portions of adult menu for the kids if we don't want to order off the kids menu for them. Silja (Foodie) Credibility Score: 42%   Visited: 03 Jun 2010 | Posted: last month The 3 things that impressed me most on our visit here, before heading to the cinema for SATC2 were: -the Sex and The Orchard Promotion of Cosmopolitans for €5.95. An excellent idea to get into the swing of the SATC mania. Who could resist? -Movie Meal and Drink deal for only €19.95 per person. This will bring me back to the Orchard - just phone them in advance, they will book your cinema tickets for you and you pop in to them for the tickets, meal and drink (includes glass of wine or a pint) for just €19.95!! -the service. Our waitress was efficient, patient and unobtrusive. The food is standard pub grub. I think it reminded me of Irish Mammy's food before the Celtic tiger. Comfort food with definite nods to the 80s. A lot of Marie Rose Sauce on the menu. Our party of 5, mainly children of the 80s, had 2 shrimp avocado salads which had copious amount of marie-rose sauce. But there was a full avocado on each plate so the portions were definitely copious too. The stew of the day and cottage pie were also comfort food hits. The chicken tender dish is probably the only one we wouldn't re order. All of the above plus coffees, 2 drinks and 2 cokes came to €80 before service. Definitely a good value option. The menu has a decent choice, with enough variety to satisfy all. The food is always predictable, and tasty. I went for a favourite.. the Chicken Rio Sandwich. Nice decor, airy and spacious. Plenty of tables to choose from. Fast and efficient service. What do I not like? The service is usually pleasant, but they can have off-days (mildly albeit). However I'd say they're improving this year. From time to time the portion sizes can vary a little. Good for the waistline, but a little disappointing when you're very hungry. All in all, I'd say drop in and eat, I don't think you'll be disappointed. If you're watching your salt intake I'd recommend you ask for no gravy, it is very salty. I ordered a Club Orange with my main and had to ask for a refill when half way through it because of the level of salt in the gravy. Joined Apr 10 24 Reviews 0 Hats Off! loading... I'd say the food is average, not bad, but nothing special, however, there is quite a large selection of dishes to choose from, so everyone should find something which appeals to them. I like the dining room though, with a wide variety of differant seating. Good if you're tooing or froing from the cinema, but otherwise, I think I'd rather stay at home and spend the money on some really good ingredients! << First Page < Prev [Results 1 - 8 of 16] Next > Last Page >>
