Wong’s is definitely one of the best Chinese restaurants in Dublin, and the Clontarf branch has always been a favourite of mine. Extensive wine list too. We tried to explain to the waitress that we had a reservation but she wasn't listening and just sat us at a table. The food was good. The salt and pepper prawns were really good! Although the curry was advertised as thai yet it just tasted like an enhanced Knorr curry, no coconut milk to be tasted at all! The service was good, a little unfirendly and we had to remind the waitress about our coffees.Get the prawns I guess Joined Jun 10 1 Reviews 0 Hats Off! loading... dublin coo (First Timer) Credibility Score: 18%   Visited: 10 Jun 2010 | Posted: last month Awful : fragments of broken plate found in dinner. When reported to waitress there was no apology or responsibility taken. Nothing taken off the bill or no alternative dish offered. Not even a free ice-cream offered to the child. Very dark and old fashioned. Come on Wongs for the prices you charge you should be more professional. Wont be going back there again. I had bbq spare ribs followed by salmon with soy. Both were excellent. The bill for 4 including 2 bottles of wine, desserts and coffee was 160, so reasonable value too. The menu was extensive but unfurtunately they didn't do a chicken curry which is the only thing my partner eats in a chinese restauraunt. I thought this was very strange as every chinese restauraunt i've been to does a chicken curry. My partner had to have three starters instead and the waiter wasn't very apologetic at all, actually he didn't really care. Food was nice when we got it although it was abit cold. Service was slow and staff were unfriendly. I wouldn't reccommend this restauraunt at all for a romantic dinner and I certanely will not be going back in a rush. Good choice of wines and a very large menu choice. Cantonese Duck was excellent as was desert. Very enjoyable experience all round, although the lighting was a little dark, for older eyes to read the menu. I had the sweet and sour chicken which had absolutely no flavor. My husband has some meat dish that looked and tasted awful. The atmosphere is like you are in a cheesy Chinese restaurant from the 1980's. The whole experience was awful. It has put me off Chinese food for a while and I love Chinese food. Staff are very unfriendly and non attentive. They took our wine away and kept coming back to fill it. Got billed for 2 bottles in the end which was cheeky as they never told us they opened a second. My husband got his dessert practically thrown down at him from my side of the table. Will never recommend this place to anyone. Overpriced too. So annoyed they ruined what should have been a lovely night out Joined Dec 06 52 Reviews 1 Hats Off! loading... tweety (Guru) Credibility Score: 88%   Visited: 12 Dec 2009 | Posted: over 2 months ago Ate here at this well established restaurant as a party of 9 on a busy Saturday night. Upon arrival some of our table were already seated, our coats were taken and we were seated at the table. An almost empty plate of prawn crackers( small plate) was not replaced. So a small plate of prawn crackers to share between 9 people not a good start. Staff were not friendly and I found them gruff. They were snappy and not a smile to be seen. We were given 5 menus to share between 9, we thought it was perhaps because they were short of menus but no they did this again at the dessert. Not good enough. One of the party sent their meal back because it was cold, my mixed meat dish was awful, bland flavourless and the quality of meat was very poor. This restaurant appears to serve up from the bags of preserved chicken with a jelly like texture that is found in many Chinese takeaways. I can't understand the rave reviews of this place? Surely the measure of a restaurant lies in the quality of the food. My dessert of cheesecake was still half frozen in the middle. The food is expensive by todays standards. 18-20 euro for mains and charging extra for the rice etc. If they are mean enough to charge extra for the rice per person they should give seperate rice portions per diner not share out amongst everyone from a big dish. I suspect that this restaurant does so well as its about 3 miles proximity to the nearest chinese competitor and has a huge population. I would not recommend it and will not return. At a cost of nearly 350 euros for the meal it was way below par in respect of both food and service. Let down. << First Page < Prev [Results 1 - 8 of 10] Next > Last Page >>
