Works from the Natasha and Jacques Gelman Collection of Modern M

The Gelman Collection is a significant collection of more than 300 works of modern and contemporary Mexican art, housed in the Casino de la Selva in Cuernavaca, Mexico, since 2001. Established by Jacques and Natasha Gelman in 1943 as a private collection, it was entrusted to the Vergel Foundation on Natasha Gelman’s death in 1998.
The collection includes 17 works by Frida Kahlo, 11 by Diego Rivera, as well as major works by David Alfaro Siquerios, José Clemente Orozco, Leonora Carrington, Rulfino Tamayo and Francisco Toledo among others.
The exhibition at IMMA presents works selected from the modern collection and includes a number of iconic works, among them the important self-portraits by Frida Kahlo, Self-Portrait with Monkeys, 1943, and Diego on My Mind, 1943, as well as outstanding works by Diego Rivera, Calla Lily Vendor, 1943, and Landscape with Cactus, 1931.
The exhibition will tour to the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh, and Vancouver Art Gallery, Vancouver.
The exhibition is sponsored by the Clarence Hotel, The Embassy of Mexico, The Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs and The Irish Times
A catalogue published by the Muros Foundation accompanies the exhibition. It includes texts by writers Pierre Schneider and Raquel Tibol; art historian Hayden Herrera, and an introduction by Robert R Littman.

Sundays, Bank Holidays: 12 noon - 5.30pm
