North County DublinNorth County Dublin (Fingal - The name of this administrative region) covers an extensive area north of the River Liffey and the city boundary to Balbriggan near County Meath. This flat and largely rural area dotted with many pretty towns, villages, beaches hosts some of the nicest places to visit in County Dublin. It's difficult to believe that this picturesque place is just minutes drive from the Dublin City Centre. Towns like Clontarf and beautiful Howth are an ideal spot for a swim or to pursue watersports. Attractions here such as parks and gardens are ideal locations to walk or cycle or have a bite to eat. North County Dublin is undoubtedly a place of great character and lovely scenery. Malahide on the northernmost point of the DART suburban railway line has a good village atmosphere to it as well as the attractions of Malahide Castle and Talbot Botanic Gardens, and the Fry Model Railway. Those interested in architecture will be interested in the granduer the an 18th Century mansion, Newbridge House, set on 145 Hectares of parkland and and an open farm. The villages of Rush & Lusk and the town of Skerries reflect the areas links with the sea and history. Lusk Heritage Centre reflects 1,000 years of Irish history and tradition where as the Skerries Mills actively shows a 400 year local industry in action. One of Dublin's best attractions Ardgillan Castle, Demesne and Victorian Garden located near the town of Balbriggan is a gardeners's dream as the mixed woodland, rose garden, walled garden and Potentilla Garden will show. North County Dublin could also said to be a golfers dream. The area is home to an ample quantity of excellent links, parkland and woodland courses catering for both the beginner and the experienced. As the region contains the best of Dublin's beaches it is no surprise that every July, August, and September thousands of Dubliners flock here to lie, bathe and swim in the Irish sea's refreshing waters and admire the areas beauty and elegance. Other attractions of North County Dublin include: the Casino Marino, one of Europe's finest neo-classical buildings; the recently restored National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin; and the National Transport Museum, Howth, a place with a generous touch of the renowned Irish character. Nearby Drogheda, although in County Louth is located very near North County Dublin and has witnessed an incredible amount of key events in Irish history.
